The Big Walk 2016

A great photo from the start. Not all the walkers are present but the vast majority of them are. See if you can find yourself amongst the other walkers . ..

The Big Walk 2016

What was involved?

The Big Walk was a sponsored walk from Bridgewater School in Scotswood, Newcastle-upon-Tyne to Tynemouth in North Tyneside. Held on Saturday 18th June 2016. A 15-mile walk, with an option to walk 5-miles for people who were unable to do the full journey. The route we followed was Hadrian's Cycleway.

Over 120 people took part and a grand total of £14,000 was raised, after costs. This is absolutely fantastic and went a long way to supporting children and their families.

Why did we do it?

The walk was primarily in aid of raising £18,000 to pay for children and their families to receive specialist therapeutic services. This counselling is vital for the children and their family’s long term well-being.

Any money raised above our target would have been used to fund Forest School; Artists linked to the Reggio Emilia approach; trips and visits; and after-school clubs. All of which will support the excellent work undertaken at Bridgewater in helping every child to reach their full potential, broaden their horizons and enable them to succeed in life.
